Traditional outfit of the Tzotziles, an indigenous group that inhabits Zinacantan, Chiapas.  The word Zinacantan means 'place of the bats,' symbolized by the cape the women wear over their shoulders called Machabal.  The dark and rich colors of the outfit represent their environment, while the bright floral colors represent their economic culture.  

The men wear a sarape known as pok'u'ul that is also embroidered in rich and colorful flowers to match the women's.

-Skirt is a refajo that wraps around the waist and is held by a belt 
-The blouse is satin with embroidery around the neck, front and back

-The Cape goes over the shoulder and ties in the front with beautiful satin tassels.
